Latest Review :   "We ordered our food & we felt really let down by tbe standard off cooking. This food was not cooked by a chef & must of been cooked by a comedian, The steak was full of grizzle, the bread was rock hard, the pie was drier than a dessert & they had cooked the onoin rings in a yorkshire pudding mix. This would have made a great episode in Fawlty Towers, Thwaites take note!"

Latest Review :   "The food was reheated frozen food dripping in grease. We asked a member of staff if this was normal as it was uneducable. We were told that they would speak to the manager but 20 minutes later we gave up and asked for the bill. We were shocked when the bill arrived and we were charged for the shocking poor quality food that we sent back. Shocking service and cheap poor quality food."

Latest Review :   "Booked for a meal tonight and it was probably the worst pub I've eaten in. To start with was told there was 4 missing items of the 7 item menu!!! which left nothing to choose from, my partner had the chilli con carne which clearly was microwaved as had more water in the bottom than lake windermere, I had the sausage and mash (due to lack of choice) with seasonal veg which meant 4 runner beans. The music coming out of the kitchen was loud and more like def leopard on speed. "

Latest Review :   "Visited with family 2 weeks ago. Service was very slow & the restaurant wasn’t full. 1 meal sent back as it was cold. Thought I’d give it another chance before posting a review. Went again tonight & the food has seriously gone downhill. The vegetables were either soggy or burned. Steak & ale pie was ok but tasted like frozen pastry. Really can’t understand why a chain pays a fortune for a restaurant, refurbishes when there is no need then serves sub standard food. Complete waste of money & won’t be returning."

Latest Review :   " I visited here as a party of 4 last week and I was eager to show this place off to my friends. But what has happened!? On entering Thwaites pub we were greeted with the smell of rotting bins and an entrance full of fag ends and dirt! The place Is absolutely filthy, the toilets being some of the worst I’ve ever been in! A drinks order was taken on arrival but we waited 20 minutes to be served beer that tasted of chemicals and wine in a dirty glass. "

Latest Review :   "The table looked like a small child had set the cutlery out. The floor was soaking wet, why it had been washed just before opening at midday is anyone’s guess, despite this, the floor was filthy. The place was generally grubby. I have eaten here many times before and it has been lovely, but something has changed. Main courses were over cooked, the service was dreadful. We had a midday sitting and were served our desert at 2.45 the guests arriving for the 3.00pm sitting were starting to leave."

Cost for 2 soft drinks and 2 Sunday lunches £40 pound which I don’t mind paying if it’s good but it was poor. The mash potato was the size of a baby’s hand, the Yorkshire pudding nearly broken my teeth, 2 small roast potato’s on the plate and 1 skinny carrot. Food was cold and I’m still hungry now it’s like a kids portion. Poooooor."

Maybe it's "Thwaite Tax" because soft drinks also far more than anywhere else in the area. I was obviously a little upset at this but to be treated by one of the kitchen staff as though I was at fault and to receive no apology other than the offer of another pizza which I didn't want and then to be threatened with being immediately told the leave the premises was appalling. I have no idea either but they managed to do it. The food was appalling. My colleagues steak, which granted she asked for well-done could have replaced the sole of my boot. No background music .the room I went into with my companion was occupied by 3 couples and you could hear every conversation even if you don't want to. Food Poisoning at 4 star hotel.

My partner and I stayed one night at this 4 star hotel last weekend. We both had dinner in the restaurant. About midnight my partner was suddenly feeling sick and was up all night throwing up. Not the weekend away we had planned. I was Ok although I think it was because I had a cooked started and she had a selection from the chefs cold table. I did tell the reception on checkout and they said they were sorry but that was it.

A wonderful experience

My husband and I have just had a wonderful meal at this gastro pub. We chose the roast beef & Yorkshire pudding with vegetables. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream whilst my husband had rum & rain ice cream with a rum to pour over the top. Everything was freshly made (no frozen stuff) It was the best meal we have ever had in ages. We highly recommend paying the pub a visit but book a table first. Very friendly welcoming staff.

Don't bother going here.

Went on sunday and arrived at about 12:15. decided to have the sunday lunch which was advertised as roast beef or another roast meat, we were told that only beef was available and when it arrived it looked and tasted like very cheap meat, the mashed potatoes served with it were cold. the pudding was ok but the custrd served with this was also cold. will not be going again

Awful experience

From 2hour waits for food to rude waiting in staff it became laughable, one evening I saw two people come back into the hotel and sit down and eat a Mac Donald’s and KFC both on different tables in a 4star rated hotel. I Suspect either the staff are terrified of the chef or the staff don’t communicate with the chef. After all is said and done despite the lovely decor I would avoid this place if you are looking for a 4star stay it’s more like faulty towers than a four star hotel and such a shame

Expensive and poor quality

Firstly we were not allowed to pick our own seats and were shown to a dark corner, the pub was very cold and when the meal arrived I was presented with undercooked veg and slices of turkey which had no taste at all and looked very much like the thinly sliced turkey you get in a supermarket, in fact I have had tastier turkey from a supermarket. The tastiest part of the meal were the mashed carrots. Felt it was money wasted and I will definitely not be eating here again. Don't usually write review

Home cooked food at its best

This is a lovely little pub, with lovely home cooked food. The menu has plenty for everyone, and there is a specials board each day. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. . Whilst there is a large car park across road, it can be a bit tricky crossing the road at bust times.

Thwaites hospitality is unbelieveable

We arrived at 6.45 approximately and many people were eating meal in the outdoor area.We purchased our drinks (cost about £20.00).When we asked for menu to order meals we were told that they had stopped serving meals in outdoor area (despite fact that people around us were being served with full meals. When we asked what time they were supposed to stop serving meals outside, we were told there was no set time, they had just decided (for their own convenience) to stop at that minute.

Overpriced old rusty rotten hotel room for £250

Sofa bed was horrendously inadequate. huge mirror stuck above the main bed, which I was nervous of sleeping under, especially as a boy was killed near us from a large mirror falling off a wall and crushing him. woken up middle of the night by drunk guests parting in the halls, no staff to assist with the noise/behaviour. drinks very over priced, £10 for a glass of Prosecco. service at breakfast was non existent. so expensive for a grimy hotel room.

The food was ghastly

I'm moved to write a review for the first time because I can't believe that someone can spend so much effort on making a restaurant nice but then serve such poor food. I had venison pie with triple cooked chips. The pastry was hard to cut and the filing didn't taste of game nor anything other than the heavy salty sauce it was in. The chips were over cooked, stale and completely tasteless. The only part of the meal that had any flavour was the veg which consisted of a few carrots.

Tired and overpriced

We paid £338 to stay here (£165 B&B and £8 parking). The bar, restaurant and courtyard are modern and inviting but as soon as you climb the stairs to the bedrooms, the cracks begin to appear (literally!). Our room was dark with only a small window and minimum lighting. The bathroom ceiling had mildew and the paint was peeling off. The sink had age lines and the internal doors were knocked and worm.

Gorgeous country pub

Just what you needed on a miserable Misty cold day. Roaring fire and cosy oldie worldy decor. Lots of parking. Very pleasant staff. The fish butty ( on a brioche bun) & mushy peas also with skinny fries. The beer battered haddock was beautiful. The goosnargh chicken BLT on brioche was also spot on and will definitely return. Highly recommended
